Good, balanced selection of both early and mature works, and all aspects of Wesley's life.

Preface, introduction excellent, useful in placing Wesleys in context. Particularly useful suggestion Wesley's theology could be constructed around a limited number of key concepts.

Does establish Wesleys and Methodism as legitimate, effective, and powerful route to perfect love/presence - more solidly than most more contemporary selections and translations.

Best one-volume resource there is.

Good collection of the essential Wesley

This is a rich resource for students of the Christian religion, especially of the Great Awakening and of the Wesleyan/Methodist tradition. Having been sprinkled, schooled and confirmed as a Methodist, I often think of the Wesleys as very familiar (maybe overly so), but their writings contain depths which reward repeated reading and contemplation. Highly recommended for readers who really seek to "get to know" the Wesleys.

THE BOOK OF WISDOM

This book is filled with oceans of wisdom. It's so powerful that reading only one sentence from this book is enough to reflect on for days! I have read some of the Hikam on the Internet, but finally I have the book and can read from it any time, any place. May Allah Most High reward Ibn 'Ata' Illah! The Intimate Conversations of Kwaja Abdullah Ansari are also very beautiful and moving. I'm very grateful for this book!

Well translated, well written and even well priced

This is realy a gem (no pun intended) In the one book you have the hikam translated by Victor Danner and also one of the books of the Afghan Sufi Abdullah al-Ansari.

The hikam is difficult enough to find so to have the two in one book is a real bonus. Some have criticised Victor Danner's translation of the Hikam (see N Kellers reliance of the traveller) but others have praised it (see the book 'School of the Shadhiliyyah') so it may be up to you to decide (it may be worth mentioning that Victor Danner was a Muslim and follower of a Sufi order (probably the Shadhili))

This rare book of Abdullah al-Ansari is also valuable as he is one of the few well known Hanbali Sufis (you may want to read 'Love theory in Hanbalite Islam' and 'Abdullah Ansari of Herat' if you can find them)amongst his works is one that was commentated upon by ibn al-Qayyum and become his work 'Madarij as-Salikin' for the stance of ibn Taymiyyah and ibn al-Qayyum on Sufism you may wish to read the book 'Sufism and Shari'ah) you may find that they were closer to Sufism than many people think.

Then only criticism I can have of this book is that it didn't provide you with the original Arabic as many Muslims may wish to memorise the hikam themselves.

Still, an exellent book.

This book is actually a true rendering of the great Shadhali Master! The Key to Salvation was the "iffy" book as to if it was really the work of Ibn Ata'ullah.
If you do not know who this great Muslim Scholar is, get this book. Apply it, read it, use it , share it, learn it!
I highly recommend you to go over this text with a Shaykh who has ijaza to interpet it, and teach it, since the great gift of ijaza (permission) is a long lost Islamic tradition. Because the sayings are so deep, and profound you want to get the whole being of every word, syllable, and wisdom!
This is not for those who mearly want it in their ever so great Islamic book collection! This is for those who love to perfect their state to those of the great masters! If you can read one hikam, and apply it to your life, you will have much success God Willing!

A worthy addition to anyone's collection

Since at this point these books no longer need an introduction, I might as well go straight into the review of this edition, the Deluxe Pocked Boxed Set. It features leatherette covers, which are soft and very well made. The colors are less saturated than they are in Amazon's picture, but that is for the better. They are definitely nice and easy to hold, and the "stand" it comes with is sturdy and beautiful. I decided to put them in my desk, and they could not have gotten a better place. The only complaint that might arise is that the font is small, but that is to be expected from a "pocket" edition, and it is readable anyway. Overall, the quality of this edition is magnificent. If you are a fan, this relatively inexpensive set should definitely be added to your collection. If you haven't read the books, stop reading this and go buy them. Seriously. Now.

Very nice set of books for the price. Recommended. Read review and view pics for detail on font for pocket-sized "paperback."

Very nice books, binding seems nice. I love the covers although they are not "paperback" and are more of a fake leather material. These books are beautiful and very convenient. They are pocket-sized which is great for on the go, they aren't too small or too big (actually bigger than I anticipated which is a plus). The font size is readable, the only thing I would have to note is that the font size isn't the same throughout the different books. The font size seems to be based on the length of the books, the longer the books are, the smaller the font is (I suppose this was in order to keep them pocket-sized as well as consistent with the sizes of the other books throughout the set). If you have decent to good eyes, this set would be perfectly fine for you on the go but those people who don't have as good of eye sight, because I know some people who tend to get headaches while focusing on small font, this set may not be for you. I will upload some pics of the font comparisons, books, etc.

Great Book, *NOT* a leather binding

Only an balrog could object to an revised 50th anniversary edition, with corrections beyond those in the the standard revised version. BUT...

This is *not* a leather binding: it's a very ordinary hardcover edition with paper-thin faux leather glued over paper boards. The bookmark ribbon breaks the binding. Signatures glued rather than sewn together, not held together by the 'leather,' separated from paper spine. Poor production generally: end papers badly centered, more than a little random glue and rubber cement on the covers that really mars the appearance. Mine is the second printing, I do not see the poor type-setting complained of by other reviewers.

Look at Customer Image #18 to see for your self.

It's an OK one-volume edition, given the revisions and illustrations. *NOT* a 'collectible', barely worth the discounted $56 given the disappointment factor. *Don't* give this as a gift to a Tolkien fan, expecting rapture.

Calling this 'leather bound' is *serious* misrepresentation of the product.

Barney is all set to spend two weeks doing nothing at his parents summer house.  But then he meets the neighbors, and things start to get interesting.  Zena, Manny, and Joe are not your average folks on vacation.  In fact, Barney suspects they're not from Earth at all.  Not only are they physically perfect in every way, but they don't seem to have jobs or permanent addresses, and they are addicted to a strange role-playing game called Interstellar Pig.  As Barney finds himself sucked into their bizarre obsession, he begins to wonder if Interstellar Pig is just a game.

A fascinating and original tale

This book is great. It's all about Barney and the neighbors he meets one summer at the beach. They're mysterious people who apprear different to everyone who sees them and are oddly fascinated by the island not far from the their rented house . . . and a game called Interstellar Pig. When Barney becomes a player, he has no idea that the game he's getting into is real -- and possibly deadly! Fans should be sure to check out Sleator's other works, particularly Singularity and The Boxes. There's a sequel to this book called Parasite Pig that's worth a read, but don't buy it; check it out from the library; it's not that great. Definitely not Sleator's best. Another recommendation: when you read his books, it's best if you don't read the backs. That way you don't quite know what you're getting into and the plot comes as a surprise. If I had known what was coming in Interstellar Pig, I wouldn't have enjoyed it half as much.

The Game - before it everything else is paled

Barney and his mother and father take a vacation and rent a holiday villa near the sea. They always come here although Barney is allergic to direct sunlight. He doesn't complain. He has his scifi books. The renter tells a tale about the owner of the villa: a seaman, captain, whose brother had gone mad and ended up locked in the same room as what is now Barney's. Shivers run his back. A group of three, perfect woman and two perfect men had insisted to rent the same villa. They were very persistent, told the renter. Barney could hear the playboys on the beach nearby the house where the new neighbors had moved in. They tan all the time. One day, they pop up on the doorsteps. They step in, ask weird question about the dead captain and are suspiciously interested in the house; they nose around everywhere. What's going on? Barney needs to find out and starts dangerous friendship with them. They introduce him to the Intergalactic Game. Before it everything else is paled.

Do yourself a favor, and *do* *not* read any of the spoilers or synopsis of the book. Resist all temptation to know what the finale is. This is a very entertaining psychological thriller, written from perspective of 16 year old's eyes. It carries the reader gently to the conclusion of the serious Game, which is devious and deceitful. Yes, there is a slight flaw: the cardboard monsters, but the the final resolution of the Game, reimburse for the tin soldier style fight scenes.

Four (4) stars. Written in 1984 for teenage audience: 13-17. At first you're skeptical, real skeptical. Barney? Teenage? Reads scifi? And then the plot thickens, Barney's thoughts and imagination going overdrive, shady neighbours, curiosity mourns in the stomach. The GAME gets serious. You really want to turn the next page, and next. When the chase continues even at the last page of the book, you smile and know to have had a solid book at your hand. With numerous twists and turns, this is an exemplar of gradual suspense.
